Position Description Primary responsibilities include reviewing, validating, and reporting ambient air quality and meteorological monitoring data; reviewing environmental impact assessments for projects; reviewing air dispersion modeling studies; calculating air emissions; determining required control technologies; understanding and interpreting existing regulations; and reviewing new and proposed regulations. This Air Quality position will also assist in the establishment of new ambient air quality monitoring stations, operation & maintenance of these stations, management of the air quality database, providing air quality consulting services to operating facilities, and assisting with source testing contractual work. The candidate will work independently as well as in team environments to support air quality assignments such as air emissions inventories, dispersion modeling, permit applications, and compliance auditing. Specifically, the individual will be responsible for the preparation of emission inventories, protocol development, cumulative impact assessments, and additional impact analyses. The candidate will work with project staff, consultants, contractors, and other air quality engineers to enhance and further develop the air quality monitoring and air pollution control programs of the Company. The candidate must possess a working knowledge of principles and practices of environmental science as it relates to air quality and meteorology, fluid dynamics, and air dispersion modeling. The ability to integrate air plume contouring data into a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) format is also desirable. A working knowledge of an Environmental Management System (EMS) is highly desirable as well as an general understanding of global environmental policies with respect to air quality, ozone depletion, greenhouse gases and global warming. The candidate will serve as a representative coordinating air studies and will act as a consultant and advisor to the Company on issues related to air quality issues, air dispersion modeling, and air pollution control technologies. Additionally, the candidate will provide training and/or mentoring to Saudi engineers/scientists. The candidate will also keep abreast of significant developments in the field of air quality and air pollution control; conduct seminars and meetings to resolve technical problems with other departments and organizations; and conduct training courses for Company staff on air quality and air pollution control technical issues. The candidate will also participate in Environmental Performance Assessments (EPA), as the Team Leader, to identify and reduce the impact of Company facilities on the environment. Selection Criteria A B.S. or M.S. degree (preferred) in chemical, civil, or environmental engineering is required with a minimum of 12 years experience in the air quality field. The candidate must possess good analytical skills and have a good working knowledge of emission inventories, regulatory compliance, air pollution prevention and control technologies, and facility compliance assessments. The candidate should have a working knowledge of US EPA air quality regulations, and a demonstrated technical understanding of process and pollution control equipment. Other requirements include an understanding of air pollution meteorology and global environmental issues. The candidate must have excellent mathematical, statistical, and computer skills; and the ability to work with Windows-based graphical display and analysis software. Experience in computer programming and database usage is an added advantage. The candidate must also have excellent verbal & written communicative skills; technical writing skills; the ability to communicate technical material to both specialist and non-specialist audiences; the ability to meet tight deadlines; and to work independently on multiple projects within a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment.
